Food Spotlight: Shepherd's pie

Have you ever bought too much minced meat whenever they have a extra price for that? Well I did many times. Normally the price would be like 69 SEK per kilo but sometimes they sell it for 30 SEK here in my town. Once I had estimated like 6 kilos of minced meat. I have divided 2.5 kilo of minced meat into 0.4 kilo in each piece to deep freeze so I could save money and have lots of food.

1 kilo is 2.2 pounds

Can you imagine how much it is to have like 6x2.2 pounds? Let me tell 1 pound is enough for a family of 2 adults and 2 children to eat in one meal. Can you imagine me who only need to cook for 1 person? I can eat 1 pound of minced meat for 2 days! After a while you get sick of eating minced meat in any form! But lucky me I have learned to cook an easy dish called Shepherd's Pie.
The dish was originally made with lamb and that's why it's referred as" Shepherd", but nowadays you use minced meat in a pasta sauce Bolognese and on top of the sauce there is layer of mashed potatoes.

It doesn't look good or tasty at all, but I ensure you it's the best way for enjoy two delicious things in one dish. I like to do my mashed potatoes from scratch meaning I don't use powder to do the mashed potato, but I had tried both. There is no taste difference. But still I like to do my mashed potatoes from scratch. The recipe is too long to post it here so you can see the recipe on this site. The dish can also be referred as "Cottage Pie"

To be honest, this is a dish you can get your children to like as long as they like pasta sauce Bolognese and mashed potatoes. And you can sneak some vegetables into it and teach them to like vegetables.

I don't know, it looks pretty yummy to me. I love casserole type foodies.
I've never had mince meat that I recall. Is it like hamburger or Salisbury mixin's?

I just wanted to come by and wish you a terrific Tuesday...
Now I wish I could have some pie...
